Advice for Beginners

Learn about our unique athletic style of yoga and changes you’ll feel right away!

If you are new to yoga, please call us so we can schedule your first free class with your unique level of conditioning and athletic abilities in mind. Each body is different, and each of us start our yoga journey from a different place. We want to set you up for success.

All of our classes are designed for you to moderate the intensity. Our all-level classes are challenging to all levels but appropriate for beginners because they offer the ability to scale based on your individual needs.

Typically, the slower the pace in the class, the more heat is applied to the classroom to help facilitate a cardiovascular effect and more flexibility. The faster the pace of movement, the less heat is applied to the room, due to the use of our own bodies to generate internal heat. The heat used in class is an excellent method to quickly burn calories, gain flexibility, and increase your cardio output. Our unique athletic style of yoga helps students gain flexibility, strength, balance, cardiovascular conditioning and makes you MIND BODY STRONG!

It is normal to struggle through your first few classes as your body adapts to the new environment and workout. The more you struggle, the more you have to gain…so don’t give up.

On average, it takes 2 weeks to condition and acclimate to this new style of fitness.
Consistency is key, and a minimum of 3 classes per week is recommended to really start to see & feel the benefits.

You will sleep deeper, handle stress better, find new levels of flexibility, lose unwanted fat,
improve your digestion, and so much more.

Q Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?

A Yoga is not just about flexibility as many people think. Yoga is about creating balance in the body and mind. In the BODY we want to attain strength and flexibility together. The absence of one leads to pain in the body. In the MIND we want to be focused yet open to new ideas. Too much focus and one can become rigid and aggressive.

Q Are Casa Yoga classes too advanced for me if I am a beginner?

A All of our classes with the exception of CY 2 (intermediate/ advance) are open to ALL LEVEL students from beginners to advanced. We encourage our new students to have an open mind and be patient as they learn how to coordinate the movements with their breath. It is not uncommon to struggle in your first few classes but the GREAT news is that you will soon be doing things you didn’t think you
could.

Q Is Yoga Is a Religion?

A Yoga is not a religion but a philosophy that teaches awareness and connection. As Deepak Chopra, MD so eloquently put it when asked the question; "I look to the roots of yoga. Traditionally, yoga is the science of the Self. Yoga seeks to help us understand our inner world through various techniques that include meditation, asanas, breathing, focused awareness, and certain rules of behavior and conduct. If by religion we mean the religious experience of transcendence, the loss of fear of death, and the emergence of platonic qualities such as truth, beauty, goodness, harmony, and evolution, then yes, yoga can give us a religious experience. It is not religion in the form of ideology, dogma, belief systems, or compliance; it’s a spiritual experience that gives us access to a universal domain of reality."

Q Do I need to adopt a new diet to do yoga?

A A yoga practice raises your awareness and therefore you will naturally make healthier choices for your body.

Q If I do yoga will I still need to do other things such as cardiovascular training or resistance training to be in great shape?

A Yoga is a full spectrum fitness program that encompasses strength, cardio, balance and flexibility. If you choose to use yoga as your primary training regiment we recommend you practice 4-5 times a week. If you already have a fitness program and are adding yoga to enhance your fitness goals we recommend you add it 1-2 times a week. Within our community we have many competitive athletes who are reaping the healing benefits of yoga by adding it to their training regimen 1-2 times a week.

Q What if I am injured and needing additional help?

A If you are experiencing a minor injury, please make your instructor aware so that they may assist you by offering additional guidance during class. If you have a debilitating injury and have clearance to work out from your Doctor, we can provide you with a series of private lessons to help you during your healing phase. Please inquire at the front desk for more info on scheduling and pricing options.

Why the Heat?

  • Accelerate your flexibility: Allows the body to stretch safely
  • Detox: Helps us burn fat more effectively by boosting metabolism and melting away water weight in sweat.
  • Vasodilation: Dilates our capillaries to boost the “oxygenation” of all our cells — tissues, muscles, organs, etc.
  • Cardio without impact: Boosts circulation and gets the heart rate up without putting pressure on your joints or ligaments
  • Immunity: Enhances our immune system by slightly elevating the temperature of the body, which increases T-cell functioning.
  • Stress management: Elevates the functioning of the nervous system and decreases anxiety by relaxing the body
